Victory recording artist Silverstein have definitely proven themselves in the past months of constant touring trying and to take over the United States. Well in my book it's working. They are slowly taking over the country with their angry, melodic hardcore. Filled with screams of sorrow, defeat, and heart break in their release, ‘When Broken Is Easily Fixed’. Though the album has been released for quite sometime I feel it deserves a bit more recognition. The album starts you off right away with the screaming line, “Never again I’ll slit my throat with the knife I pulled out of my spine” in the song, “Smashed Into Pieces”. It kind of sets the mood for the rest of the record for the listener right away. Guitarist, Neil Boshart and drummer, Paul Koehler of the band describe their music as “tightly wound rock.” I guess that those are the words to describe their sound, besides categorizing it into the genre of ‘screamo’. It’s more than just ‘screamo’ like I said it's melodic hardcore but with dreamy emo tendencies. The album is full of anger, frustration, disappointment and heart ache. It kind of just really reaches out and describes for you how you feel inside and lead vocalist, Shane Told, puts it beautifully. You just relate to everything he is saying by taking the listener into the depths of their own broken heart. This is one of those bands that you can not have a favorite song for because everyone is just so perfect in its own way. “Giving up”, seems to be one of the more known Silverstein songs that are around and it’s definitely no wonder. They are certainly talented and most defiantly unique and word everything perfectly. It is rumored that they will be playing at this years Skate & Surf [Asbury Park, NJ] so if your in the area try to check them out or when they invade your neighborhood.
