Saravain

[review by Attiya]

Saravain formally known as Redfeild Rd, released their first album self titled "Saravain", on November 20, 2004 . They are a local band from Bel Air MD, that has been around for a while. Always working hard, impressing fans all the time, and always doing shows. Now at shows I had never really heard what their lyrics were saying, but now that I have the CD, I understand a lot better and it actually makes me want to listen more.

When I first got the CD, I was quite excited. I’ve seen them play many, many times and I enjoy their set every time. The first song on the album is "Two Wrongs Make Me Write", it has a little bit of a Fall Out Boy feeling to it, but only for a little bit. It’s pretty upbeat, good screaming, love the lead singer's voice, and the have a great accompaniment and same for song two.

One thing I have noticed about them is, they seem like a kind of band that actually wants to go somewhere with their music. Instead of some local bands that just come out for a few shows and can’t keep up and never seem to really try, and then just die out. Some also come out for the girls and the popularity… then die. But with them I hope they go somewhere, I can definitely see myself buying their next CD.

If you’re a kid that’s into screaming emo type music, this is for you! This CD is the kind of CD you put in your radio for a month and just not take it out. And if you happen to be traveling with some friends you can rock out to this on your way to your destination.

I’d like to note song four, "The Auburn Sky and the History of Lies", the guitar part stands out to me, I like it a lot. Once again catchy beats, makes you want to dance around a little bit. I also like the titles they use; i.e. "Counting Sheep with a Shotgun," "Two Wrongs Make Me Write." The beginning of song 6 has a little bit of a Brand New feel to it, but of course it’s just for a split second.

The instrumental song is nice, kind of cliché though, this type of song seems to be popping up everywhere on albums now.

Another great thing about this band, they have their own independent sound. Like here and there I may have heard a hint of another band, but it’s only for a few seconds and it goes right back to there unique sound. I think it may be the way the vocals are done. And the way the chose to put it together. I’m sure if someone listened to it, they could compare them to other bands. But from my point of view, and the bands that I listen to [which are quite a few], I have to say they’re independent.

Song 8, "The Irony of Waking to a Nightmare" is my second favorite, they have a fast pace to it. The vocals are kinds of fast, and I like songs like that. Has a bit of a Blink 182 feel and song 9 has a short hint of New Found Glory’s song, "At Least I’m Known for Something Good."

Over all I would say the album is pretty good, worth the 10 bucks you pay for it. Like is said for a local band that’s pretty nice. Saravain is a band I hope goes somewhere, with a few hints of what everyone else l here and there, but still keeping an unique sound, I can see this band going very far in the future.
