[interview by Jenna & Kaitlin of Broken Voices]

Estrella: State your name and what you do in the band.
Heath: My name's Heath and I play guitar and sing sometimes.

Broken Voices: Favorite song to play live and why?
Heath: My favorite song to play... I really like playing "Whole New World', it's very dynamic and it's really fun to play, I don't know.. I'm very simple, I like things that are fun.

Estrella: If you were in a different band, if you could be in any other kind, do you think you'd still be playing the kind of music you play now or would you be heading for something different?
Heath: You mean like any band of all time?
Estrella: Like if you could, would you play a different style of music?
Heath: Possibly, yeah. I don't know, it depends. I listen to alot of different kinds of music, so I'm the kind of guy that when I'm bored, I sit in my room and play alot of cds, they're all set up in my room, actually I never do that. I play along with like Metallica and stuff, I don't even know if I can answer your question. I don't know what I would do. I know I would just like to play something that's challenging.
Estrella: Do you like the style that you play now?
Heath: Yeah, I wouldn't be in this band, if I didn't like it.
Estrella: I know, but some bands they like it at first but then they might grow out of their style.
Heath: If we were still writing the same songs that we were writing five years ago, then I'd probably be bored. But, we're writing different stuff so it gets more challenging. But alot fun because challenge is fun. All the time.

Broken Voices: Musical influences, growing up?
Heath: Growing up... I used to listen to alot of metal because I was really bored and wanted to learn how to play the guitar, cause that seemed like the right thing to do because metal guitar players have chops, and I wanted to learn how to play.
Broken Voices: Like Slayer?
Heath: No, I never liked Slayer, surprisingly enough. Everyone who likes metal, likes Slayer. I used to like Metallica alot and alot of weird metal bands, like Helloween and Gamma Ray. Bands who no one ever listened to, I liked them for some reason. But Guns N Roses, that was one of the first cds I ever bought and I still listen to it today and hear new things is interesting. It freaks me out how great that cd is. "Appetite For Destruction."

Estrella: What was your worst subject in high school?
Heath: I'll have to say most of them. I didn't do very well in high school, the only thing that interested me was History. I liked learning about History alot, but I was pretty good in Math. I wasn't really good in English because I hated writing papers and stuff, so I never did well in that. I'd say English. I would actually yell English.

Broken Voices: Favorite band to tour with?
Heath: Favorite band that we have toured with?
Broken Voices: Yeah.
Heath: I really enjoy this tour that we're on right now with Matchbook Romance, The Academy Is..., and Hidden In Plain View, they're all really fun to hang out with. We had a really great time with My Chemical Romance. I'd like to tour with My Chemical Romance again because those are like our boys from home, you know?

Broken Voices: Are there any bands that you haven't toured with that you'd like to?
Heath: I would love to tour with Saves the Day. I would absolutely love to tour with them. They have been one of my favorite bands since I was in high school. I used to drive around listening to their demo in high school and I thought it was the best thing ever. So I would love to tour with them. Anytime they put out a new record, I'd be totally into it.

Estrella: What would you say is the coolest or weirdest thing about being in the band?
Heath: I don't know if I can talk about either of those with you. Coolest thing I ever did? I met Robbie Williams one night, I was really drunk. We played a show in Los Angeles at the House of Blues, which is right on Sunset and Robbie Williams was walking down the street. Do you guys know who Robbie Williams is?
Broken Voices: I love Robbie Williams.
Estrella: Yeah, yeah.
Heath: I fucking love him too and he seems like the coolest guy in the world and I would just love to hang out with him and go get a few beers and just talk, that would rule. So I saw him walking down the street and my friend was like, "Yo, that's Robbie Williams", and I was like, "No, it's not." And I looked and it was him and I ran like two blocks down the street. I'm like, "Mr. Williams, it's a real pleasure to meet you. My name is Heath, I got to say I love your music, I love the videos you make..". Wait, what else did I say that was really weird.. I told him that I think that it rules, that he's always just fucked up and has a loud mouth, he talks alot of shit about everyone but he doesn't give a fuck about any of it. And he's like, "Thanks alot, it was nice meeting you." That was one of the coolest things that ever happened to me. And the weirdest thing that ever happened to me is that after I met him, I broke his neck. That was weird. No that didn't happen either. I really did meet him, but I didn't break his neck. I was to in shock. I wouldn't do that anyway, he's awesome. The weirdest thing I ever did, can't talk about it. I'd be letting you down if I made something up.

Broken Voices: What do you think you would be doing if you weren't in a band?
Heath: I'd probably involved in music in someway. I've always wanted to do something with music. Probably working at a studio, running a studio, because I like being in that environment. I like watching things come together. Getting good sounds and stuff like that. I'd probably be doing that or writing children's books.
Estrella: You would like to write but you hate English?
Heath: Children's books.
Estrella: I know but still..
Heath: No, it's easy. You don't really have to construct big sentences like, "Johnny bought an apple" or "Johnny's mom bought an apple", "She gave him the apple", "Johnny ate the apple." It's really easy, I could do that.
Estrella: I don't think kids would be interested in Johnny's apple.
Heath: Well, listen if you haven't heard the third chapter, just wait you'll see, you'll fucking see.

Estrella: What would you say has been your best Halloween costume ever?
Heath: I remember as a kid, I dressed up as a punk rocker, like six times. When I was five until like eleven, I dressed up as a punk rocker. I was never really original. One time, I think I was in a seminary, I found a pink panther costume, like in the closet and I put it on and I went outside and rang the doorbell and freaked out my grandmother because she didn't know that was me in the pink panther costume, she thought it was someone trick or treating in February. Maybe that's the weirdest thing I've ever did, that's pretty weird. That's not the weirdest, but you can use that.

Broken Voices: What is the best thing that a fan has ever done for you?
Heath: Sometimes people bake us cookies and brownies, that's always fun because I really like food. If you bring me food, you're automatically up there in my book. I'm kind of mad, I can't drink for another five days.
Estrella: Why?
Heath: Because I have a sinus infection, so I'm on antibiotics.

Broken Voices: What are you currently listening to?
Heath: I really like this band from Germany called No Twist or Notwist, I don't know.
Estrella: In Germany, the W sounds like a V. Sorry.
Heath: I think it's American name. I know how to speak German. I really don't know how to speak much German.

Estrella: As a band, what's one of your goals. Long term or short term, doesn't matter.
Heath: Be able to hang out with Robbie Williams on a daily basis. I don't know, we just want to keep doing what we're doing, writing music that we're proud of. Going out and playing shows and still having fun doing it. Cause this is what you really do. I mean, you come into this business. God, that's terrible. If you start a band to make money, you're a fucking idiot cause maybe like five percent of the bands that are out there that start actually can make a living for what they're doing. Let alone get so rich. So you gotta do it because you love it, it's fun.

Broken Voices: If you could switch places...
Heath: Sean Connery.
Broken Voices: I was going to say that wasn't Robbie Williams, but you didn't say Robbie Williams. So Sean Connery.
Heath: Sean Connery.
Broken Voices: Good answer.

Estrella: What's your favorite candy?
Heath: Whatever that shit is, it's pretty good...
Estrella: Who would you say is your celebrity crush.
Heath: For years it was Christina Ricci, I used to totally love her. Now, I don't really have celebrity crushes, maybe Tony Danza, I think he's my current celebrity crush.
Estrella: What show was he on?
Heath: Who's The Boss.

Broken Voices: Closing statements?
Heath: Go fuck yourself.
