Estrella: Hey, for the purpose of the interview, could you please tell us your name and what you do in the band?
Josh: Hey, I’m Josh and I play guitar.
Tony: I’m Tony and play drums.
Estrella: How’s the UK tour going/been?
Tony: I’m been awesome, we’ve been here for a week and we started off, we supported Finch and then we had three headlining shows, one in Wolverhampton last night and two shows today, one this afternoon and one this evening. I think every show has been sold out, so it’s been awesome.
Josh: Yeah, it’s been cool, there’s been a lot of guys coming out to see us this time around. Even on the Finch tour there were a lot of people coming out, I mean last time we were here you’d see people here and there, but it’s made it a lot of fun.
Estrella: What’s the best and the worst thing about coming over to the UK?
Josh: The best thing, experience wise, is to get to travel and come over to the UK for free, well not for free, we play the shows but that’s fun anyway. I mean it’s sort of like a holiday for us.
Tony: I don’t really know if I would have ever really had the chance to come over here if it wasn’t for this band, so it’s great to get this chance.
Josh: I know what the worst thing is, the food. It’s just normally really kind of greasy and it normally just makes me want to vomit and that’s not fun when your going to place a show in the evening.
Tony: The worst thing is the fact that I’m kind of your typical kind of lazy American and I like things to be convenient and not everything is over here.
Estrella: Like what?
Tony: Like places close really early here so if I want to go and get something from a store late at night, the store will be closed, that kind of thing. Also, sometimes when I just want to plug something in and I realise I have to get an adapter out to connect to the mains that kind of bums me out.
Estrella: Are you looking forward to the new album, Commit This To Memory coming out?
Josh: Yes, finally. It seems like it’s been a long time coming but yeah we’re really excited about it coming out. The whole experience of recording the album was just what I’d hoped it would be.
Estrella: Was it fun working with Mark Hoppus?
Tony: Yeah he’s a great guy, he’s always running around naked and giving you naked massages and stuff, just joking. Just the whole process was just how I expected it to be when recording an album. This time it was more like recording an actual record, as we were in a house studio for over a month. It was just a great experience.
Josh: Yeah because the last album didn’t feel like recording an actual record because we were doing a little bit here and a little bit there. It was a very weird process and it was all very rushed.
Tony: Yeah and I’d only joined the band like 2 weeks before.
Josh: Yeah and you recorded like all the drums for that album in like 8 hours.
Tony: Yeah it was very rushed, they were done in about 8 hours.
Estrella: How does your new album differ from, I Am The Movie?
Josh: Everything that is on the new record was very deliberate, every little sound you’ll here was very deliberate and we spend a lot of time getting everything just how we wanted it to be.
Estrella: What have you guys got planned for the rest of 2005?
Tony: A lot of stuff
Josh: Yeah a lot of stuff, we’re very very busy.
Tony: We’re pretty much all booked up now till December, this year.
Josh: Yeah, we’re doing loads of record release shows when the record comes out, then we’re doing pretty much all of the Warped Tour this year, along with loads more headlining shows in the states.
Estrella: Any plans to come back to the UK?
Josh: Well at the moment our management are trying to get us on the Reading and Leeds Festivals, so hopefully that’ll happen but at some point we will be back to do a proper headlining tour here because we’ve never done one over here before, we’ve done quite a few now back in the states but never over here, we’ve just done one of the shows but we will come back and do a proper tour at some point.
Estrella: What would be the best thing to happen to you guys this year, if you could choose one thing?
Tony: Well, I have one that I don’t think I’ve ever said before.
Josh: No, I don’t think you’ve said this before.
Tony: Well since we’ve been touring the states, we’ve been doing it in a little van and I don’t know if I should say this because it might sound a cocky but over the next few months of touring I’d like it if we could upgrade to tour in an actual tour bus and be able to do that.
Josh: Oh yeah I think that is actually fact, that will happen quite soon, I think. The only thing is that it costs a lot more to tour in a bus than what it does to tour in a van. I think we are at that point where we do actually make enough money from playing shows to be able to do it on a bus.
Estrella: How do you guys feel about your new album leaking onto the internet?
Tony: Well we were pretty bummed that it happened that quickly, I mean you always know it's gonna happen eventually, but for it to happen that quickly and when it first happened it was still like three months until the album was due to come out so we were pretty bummed at first. The one thing about it happening that early is it means that people must really want to hear it and that’s cool and hopefully if they like it they will go out and buy it anyway.
Josh: Yeah and all the feedback has been really positive and all the kids are singing along to all the new songs at the shows and that’s really cool to see so hopefully everyone will go out and buy a copy anyway.
Estrella: Do you guys have any last comments or closing statements?
Tony: Yeah, I’d like to thank everyone in the UK for coming out to the shows and supporting us.
Josh: Yeah, definitely and go pick up our new record Commit This to Memory, when it comes out, June 7th.
Estrella: Cheers.
