LEAH STARGAZING

[interview by Alexa]

Estrella: Who came up with the band name?
Jordan: I came up with the name of the band. At the time I was with my friend who was originally going to be the bassist of the band.

Estrella: Does it Leah Stargazing mean anything?
Jordan: Leah is my friend's little sister. At the time, she had a type of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. She was going through chemo, and it was a tough time. Her mom asked us to play at her surprise birthday party when she was turning 12. We had never had a gig, so we thought it'd be great to play the show and we thought that it would cheer Leah up if a band was named after her. I know its not much because we really couldnt help her out any other way, but we hoped that it at least made her happy. She's in remission now and doing great. I talk to her almost everyday.

Estrella: Where are all of the band members from?
Jordan: We're all from Rhode Island. My brother, Brandon and I live together and Tim lives about 2 minutes down the road. Kevin, our drummer, lives about 10 minutes away, so we're all pretty close to each other.

Estrella: Who writes most of the songs?
Jordan: I write all the songs for the band.

Estrella: What's your favorite parts of being in a band?
Jordan: We all love making music and sharing it with everyone. I think the best part is making people happy. When you see everyone at the show dancing and singing along to your songs, its amazing. I always went to local shows where all the fans knew the words, but I never thought we'd get to that point, but then show after show, more and more kids were singing along to our songs. Its great when fans come up after a show and tell us that they could relate to a certain song that we played, and that it helped them through a tough time.

Estrella: What is the whole band doing now?
Jordan: Actually, the band is going into the studio this weekend to record a new EP. After the EP is released, we're going on tour down the east coast for about 3 weeks at the end of July. We have big plans for the band in the near future.

Estrella: What are 5 cd's that are spinning in your cd player now?
Jordan: Hmm...lately I've been listening to Taking Back Sunday, Mest, Alkaline Trio, The Notwist, Midtown and a band from New Jersey that we're touring with this summer, Far From Bliss.

Estrella: Who are your influences?
Jordan: We all have our own influences, which I thinks adds to the band's unique sound. I personally love The All-American Rejects, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, etc... Brandon listens to bands like NOFX or Mike Ness. Tim listens to Alkaline Trio, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, and Kevin likes bands like New Found Glory.

Estrella: What do you like about the fans?
Jordan: The fans are AMAZING. We couldnt have asked for better fans. Our fans are there to help us out so much. Just this weekend we had a show and tons of fans went around handing out flyers and promoting us. Our fans are always there for us, and they're always backing us.

Estrella: Any words of encouragement or advice?
Jordan: I'd have to say the best words of encouragement are these- if you love something and you want to do something, do it. No matter what anyone says, work for it and you can get it. Less than two years ago, my closest friends kept telling me, "Jordan, you CAN'T sing, so dont try. It sounds AWFUL," but I loved singing, so I kept working at it. At a show the other night someone came up to me and said, "I love your voice, its so great." That's complete opposite ends of the spectrum, so I think its safe to say that you can pretty much do whatever you work for, so dont ever give up on anything.
