Estrella: Could you please state your name and what you do in the
band.
Patrick: My name's Patrick and I play guitar and I sing a little bit and I play other stuff, but
that's cool. Do you want to know who everybody else is, for the record? Or no?
Estrella: Go ahead.
Patrick: Alright, Robb plays guitar and sings the most. Matt plays drums and tambourine and
percussion and Justin plays bass and gets down with it.
Estrella: How have you liked touring with Motion City Soundtrack,
Tsunami Bomb, and The Academy Is...?
Patrick: It's pretty alright. Like Motion City Suondtrack are some of our favorite people in
the world. So it's great, being able to hang out with them everyday. And Tsunami Bomb is great. They're really nice to us and Jay plays with us
every night, he plays harmonica. And The Academy Is... we've just met on this tour and they're sweet dudes too. So it's a good tour. It's kind of
rough on the east coast because I don't think that people on the east coast like country music, as much as people do in the midwest.
Estrella: The east coast is...
Patrick: Hardcore. They like and want fast, hard music and not all kinds of people enjoy us.
Estrella: Well, recently everyone's like obsessed with the Honorary
Title and Straylight Run.
Patrick: Really?! That's cool.
Patrick [reading from paper] : How long did it take you to record, "Hi,
Everything's Great." ?
Patrick: About a month or so in Kansas, in the cold winter month of January. It was great. It
was great. It was a great time. It wasn't that cold. It wasn't so cold that we couldn't go outside. We actually went shopping alot and bought alot of
guitars and amps while we were there and goofed off and stole an iron statue dog.
Estrella: Who writes most of the songs, both lyrically and musically
wise?
Patrick: "BB."
Matt: "BB"? Like a baby?
Patrick: It's called, "Robbie's new name is BB." Because your new name is "TT."
Matt: "TT"?
Patrick: Because you have two T's in your name and Robb has two B's in his name.
Matt: Did you know that's a glorious nickname?
Patrick: Congratulations.
Matt: No, like in Puerto Rico, they call your Aunt...
Patrick: TT.
Matt: Tia. I don't know why..
Patrick: Tia means Aunt.
Matt: Okay, how about this. In Puerto Rican spanish, a bus is a Wawa.
Estrella: WAWA! Have you ever been to a Wawa?
Patrick: Wawa sucks.
Matt: No, no. Pat sucks. Wawa is good.
Patrick: Robbie writes most of the lyrics. Both musically and lyrically.
Estrella: Musical influences?
Patrick: Musical influences.... the Fruitbats.
Matt: No, no, no. WRONG! That's the band that Pat really likes alot.
Patrick: Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.
Matt: Creedance Clearwater.
Patrick: Revival.
Matt: Revisited.
Patrick: No, no, no. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Bob Dylan.
Matt: Ryan Adams.
Patrick: Ryan Adams. Buffalo Springfield. Superdrag. We're old and jaded, Alexa, Sara,
and Emily. To each his own. Fact number one about Limbeck: Jaded old dudes. Fact number two about Limbeck: We don't give a shit.
Patrick [reading from paper] : Who are you currently listening to?
Patrick: The Fruitbats.
Matt: Patrick is listening to the Fruitbats! Patrick is making us all listen to the Fruitbats.
Patrick: Exactly, because currently we loaded the van to listening to all Fruitbats records.
Do you guys like the Shins?
Estrella [Sara]: Honestly, I've never really listened to them.
Patrick: OH MY GOD! Alexa, do you listen to them?
Estrella [Alexa]: I don't listen to them.
Patrick: Okay, number one listen to the Shins! "Oh, Inverted World", amazing record.
Estrella [Sara]: Do they have a girl in it? Sorry, I'm thinking of the Sounds.
Patrick: Wait, Rilo Kiley? No, totally different. Listen to the Shins, your lives will be
changed. I hope so.
Estrella: Like the Postal Service?
Patrick: No.
Estrella: Do you listen to Action Action?
Patrick: No.
Estrella: Or Lovedrug?
Patrick: No.
Estrella [Sara]: They listen to John Fogerty, Alexa.
Patrick: YEAHHH! JOHN FOGERTY!
Matt: There it is.
Patrick: She hit it on the nail on the head. Alexa, I think you can say that some of our
influences are definitely what we're currently listening to. I probably also listen to too much... but Matt can't talk though because he stole all the
Ryan Adams from my IPod.
Matt: I did.
Patrick: I listen to alot of Ryan Adams. Do you guys, Alexa?
Matt: Patrick currently listens to a ton of Ryan Adams. Obsessed with Ryan Adams and no, not
even just a little bit. No, in his dreams..
Patrick: No, I haven't met Britney Spears. We went to a bar, that he half owns, or some of
his friends own in New York and we waited there to see if he was going to come to the bar, but he didn't come to the bar.
Matt: And Pat was there until 7am in the morning.
Patrick: I was there until 7am in the morning. What do you think about that? It was a good
night in New York. Getting crazy and getting wild.
Matt: What do you think?
Estrella: I think that's great. That's wonderful.
Patrick [reading from paper] : Craziest fan story.
Patrick: We have alot of crazy fans.
Matt: Do we?
Patrick: Yeah, we have crazy fans, man.
Estrella: You also don't have hoodies in any size but extra large.
Patrick: Reason being..
Estrella: I am very upset.
Patrick: Do you want one?
Estrella: I want a hoodie, but I don't want extra large.
Patrick: Do you want it for $5 dollars?
Estrella: No, you tried to give it to me for $10 dollars.
Patrick: Hey, so do you want it for a dollar?
Estrella: Nnnnn...
Matt: Ohhh, see see!
Patrick: She budges at a dollar, she budges at a dollar. That's all we need to know.
Matt: But it's not worth taking a hoodie out of the van. I wouldn't do it.
Estrella: Oh man, shady people walking around.
Patrick: Roll down the windows! Can we roll down the windows? Is it weird?
Estrella: No, you guys don't understand Baltimore.
Patrick: No, we do.
Matt: We can take them.
Estrella: Those are the fans that called you the best band in the world.
[Patrick yells out window "NUMBER ONE FAN IN THE USA!"]
Patrick: Craziest fan story... I don't think we can really go into the craziest fan story because
we have alot of crazy fans. Right? RIGHT! Like, people come and sleep in their cars for shit and they bring us pasta and shit.
Matt: They don't really bring us pasta.
Patrick: Punk rock mom bought us pasta in Long Island the other night. We have a "mom".
Okay, let's move on.. are we cool? Let's move on.
Patrick [reading from paper] : Best Halloween costume you've ever
worn.
Patrick: Props to Matt Stevens right here, drummer of Limbeck band for wearing a
cheerleader costume and for totally looking like his sister.
Matt: My mom did my makeup and everything.
Patrick: And he freaked everybody out. I mean, FREAKED everybody out. I think the best
Halloween costume in this band would be...
Matt: Justin.
Patrick: First place to Justin for growing a beard and his hair for five months, so he could
shave from his headline back and then have a mane and be a lion, there's a picture on our blog, on our tour diaries, you can look at it.
Matt: And Justin's a lion. It's amazing.
Patrick: limbeck.net
Matt: Plug.
Patrick: Rob was a burrito, which was awesome because I was really envious of that one.
Patrick [reading from paper] : Do you have any advice to give to bands
who are trying to get signed or well known?
Patrick: Don't do everything that's been played before because it's a bunch of crap.
Matt: Well... well...
Patrick: No, it's a bunch of crap. Don't jump on any god damn bandwagon because
bandwagons are... Like, you can be popular and sell alot of records and have kids go to your shows and then next year, you're going to be in the
toilet.
Matt: Okay, I'll correct Pat on this one. Basically, you can be like a nu-metal band, that's totally
cool or you can be like a screamo band, but you..
Patrick: SCREAMO'S 2003. OVER.
Matt: You can do that because people like it, but deep down inside you know you're not going to
like your own band and that sucks.
Patrick: Yeah, do something that you're happy with because that's gonna be what lasts. Am
I right?
Estrella: Yeah. Yes, you're right.
Matt: Cause I mean, seriously Patrick, do you think the guys in Simple Plan really think their band
is good? Or Good Charlotte, do you think they're like, "WOW! We're a good band".
Patrick: No way they don't.
Estrella: You know they're from here?
Patrick: Yeah.
Matt: Yeah.
Patrick: Let's just talk up a shitstorm right now. I don't care.
Matt: Yeah, I mean, Minor Threat made fun of their band.
Estrella: And MxPx does.
Patrick: EVERYBODY DOES! Cause those bands actually did something they were happy
with and have stuck with it and that's awesome and it can change over the years.. Like MxPx turning a little bit different.. am I right?
Estrella: You're right.
Matt: You're right, Pat.
Patrick: But they were happy with what they were doing, so props. Props to Mxpx.
Magnified Plaid! You know that's their name? That's the name of their band because I saw them.. when I was... how old are you guys? Alexa?
Estrella: 19, 17, 14.
Patrick: Twenty-fucking-five.
Matt: 24.
Patrick: So we're old. I saw them play New Years in a Church.
Estrella: If you could take 3 things to a desert island with you, what
would you take?
Patrick: Bob Dylan "Highway 61 Revisited" , an acoustic guitar, and a pair of shoes.
Matt: I would probably bring Johnny Cash "My Mother's Hymn Book", and I would bring my family
and food. What? That would be good times.
Estrella: Best album ever.
Patrick: EVER? Too hard. Ryan Adams' "Heartbreaker."
Matt: EVER? That's EVER!
Patrick: Yeah.. right now, because that's the one I listen to the most.
Estrella: Alright, right now...
Matt: I would have to say Beach Boys "Pets Sounds".
Patrick: Ryan Adams "Heartbreaker". How does that grab you?
Estrella: Uhm.. good.
Estrella: If you could be in a different band with a different genre of
music. Would you do it and what would it be?
Patrick: Gorilla Biscuits. Circa 1989.
Matt: Black Flag "Damaged"
Patrick: Give us more.
Estrella: Favorite crown color. Like a weird one..like macaroni and cheese is a yellow
crown, I mean crayon. CRAYON!
Patrick: I'm sorry, but I guess I'll have to step on your toes and say that macaroni and
cheese is a bad ass color of a CROWNNN.
Matt: I'm still puzzled that you said crown as crayon.
Patrick: Macaroni and cheese right?
Matt: That's pretty bad ass but I have to say like.. violet for some reason.
Estrella: NO! NO! Weird names.
Matt: Robin's egg blue.
Estrella: Biggest drinker in the band.
Patrick: Robb.
Matt: Actually, I'll take this. I would say the least is me, obviously. I'd say Justin is the craziest but
happens only once in a short while. Pat & Robb are pretty consistent. Consistency, Pat & Robb. Justin, can out do anybody, once every couple
weeks and me, I would lose, always.
[cell phone begins to ring]
Patrick: Alexa's mom is calling, bad news.
Matt: Where you guys from?
Estrella: Bel Air. Harford County.
Patrick: That's in Beverly Hills. Be quiet, should I answer it and talk to your mom? No, bad
idea.
Matt: She said "crown", that's crazy.
Estrella: Favorite place/state to play?
Patrick: Utah. Salt Lake. Austin, TX. I just like it there. Michigan. Los Angeles, because
we've been good there. Florida, I like alot. Georgia's bad ass.
Matt: That's too many, dude. She said favorite.
Patrick: I'm just naming my favorites. Baltimore's actually really good tonight
Matt: It is. Baltimore's good tonight.
Patrick: You know what's weird, as I said, as I refer to question #2 [How have you liked
touring with Motion City Sound, [Tsunami] Bomb, and the Academy Is... so far].. It's a pretty diverse bill, if I'm right and it's pretty crazy because
some nights we don't go over real well, as I said, because kids hate country music and they just hate our band and I don't have a problem with it
because I couldn't really careless about what people think about us but I don't mean that to sound arrogant, it's just we do what we do and people
pay to get in to show, and they can watch us or they cannot and if they want to say something to us, well be like, "let's talk about it" because I'll
probably.... I'm not going to beat you up or anything because I'm not a fighter, because you could probably kick my ass if you wanted to talk to me
about stuff, but we could talk about stuff and we'll probably bond.
Matt: True. Little do the punk rock kids know that I would like to be in Black Flag and you'd like to
be in Gorilla Biscuits.
Patrick: Gorilla Biscuits.
Matt: And we play country music, it comes around you know. This is our profession.
Estrella: How has myspace effected you?
Patrick: Matt, it hasn't effected him at all because...
Matt: It's not in my life at all. I have not, you know what, the story of my life, I don't give into
addictions, I don't do that.
Patrick: Okay, myspace is pretty cool, I have no problem with it. It's cool. It's kind of
ridiculous at this point, I could careless about it too.
Matt: Justin is obsessively addicted.
Patrick: It's a good way to keep in touch with people though, I'll give it that.
Estrella: I'm probably in your extended network.
Patrick: Yeah, probably, totally. But it's good because when you get emails from random
people, that's awesome and random. From just like a random person. You're a random. Yeah, when you see faces though it's alot easier to be
like, "Hey, I remember that person", that was cool. You know?
Estrella: I bet half those kids in there are on myspace.
Patrick: Psshhhttt... Ninety percent, I bet. I could go take a bet with you Alexa, right now.
Patrick: What else do you got? Do we live with our parents? Yes,
everybody lives with their parents, we're 23-25 and we still live with our parents. It's awesome because we don't have to pay rent and our parents
are great to us and they feed us and they do our laundry when we're home and it's a part of being in a band.
Matt: Yes.
Patrick: If you're lucky enough, because if you're not lucky enough, you can't live with your
parents and you have to spend all the money you make on tour on rent, which sucks.
Estrella: Do you have any merch people? I didn't see any.
Patrick: We usually do. We have a dude name Jon Cheese, who is amazing. We've also
been known to bring this guy Anthony, who's amazing. But Jon Cheese, I think he's pretty much our concrete...
Matt: He's a CEO.
Patrick: He's our concrete dude and he's crazy because he plays the tambourine, he does
splits, he kick ass, he's an awesome.
Matt: But, I have to be honest, he totally denied us on this tour.
Patrick: Fair! Fair! Because he got a new house and he bought a motorcycle.
Matt: But...
Estrella: Your merch guy??!
Matt: It did extremely bomb out our band, did you see Switchfoot with the Format and the
Honorary Title on the tour?
Estrella: That one didn't come here.
Matt: Okay, he was touring with Honorary Title on that tour.
Patrick: JON CHEESE, in big letters Alexa. Big letters : JON CHEESE.
Matt: You know what, I just thought of a freaky fan story. It's about this person,
that we went out to dinner with and they freaked out and yelled at you [referring to Patrick] because they went to a different food place then the
one that we were already ordered at. It was just kind of crazy.
Patrick: I don't know, you know. Like I said, there are alot of crazy fan stories. It's like.. long
story, long story, long story. Not worth telling.
Matt: Yeah, it is.
Patrick: Not worth telling, we have too many crazy fan stories.
Patrick: Any more questions.
Estrella: Well the last one..
Patrick: The last comment one...
Estrella: Yeah.
Patrick: Alright, last comments. When you go to a show, you pay to go to a show, you don't
pay to sit around and stand around. So have a good time, get loose, get wild, get sweaty because when I was in high school, that's what we did at
shows and that's why me and Matt both collectively talked about this, that was why it was a magical part of our lives, because we shared that
together and people actually sweat at shows and had a crazy time and it didn't matter.
Matt: You went to shows to just have a good time and everybody just had fun dancing it up.
Patrick: I'm not saying to mosh. Just dancing it up. JUST DANCE! DANCE!
Estrella: That's because people that go to show nows, sit around and shit talk everybody
else.
Patrick: That's exactly what's wrong these days is that people are like messed up these
days. People just need to let loose and get wild. Just get wild, that's all. Alexa, Sara, and Emily, it's been a great night, thank you for the interview,
I hope it's not too long to transcribe this, good luck on that Ocean beach/park/land [referring to Motion City - sound like Ocean City]..
Estrella: City?
Patrick: Yeah, city. Ocean City Soundtrack.
Estrella: Thank you.
Patrick: You're welcome. I'll talk to you, I have your number and I'm going to text message
you like crazy. She loves text messages.
