Estrella: Could you please state your name and what you do in the band.
Nick: I'm Nick Brooks and I sing for the band.
Estrella: You've been on tour with the bands He Is Legend, Aiden, I Killed The Prom Queen, & Silverstein for a while now, how has tour been?
Nick: Tour's been amazing. We've had preferably a lot of bullshit, not so much from the tour but with everything else. That's why we're in a van now, we were in a bus the other day, that's alright though, I don't really care I like vans. It's been really stressful, but it's been awesome. The show's have been incredible and all the guys on tour are fucking sweet.
Estrella: Any crazy tour stories? From either this tour or any other ones you may have been on?
Nick: This tour, I'm a big drunk so it's hard for me to remember any crazy stories but from what was retold to me, in Cinncinatti we went to like this bro party, like all these bro dudes were there. Some of the guys, stole some of the girls from the party, and just went to hang out somewhere else or whatever. They just wanted to hang out. The bros did not like that. They definitely just blew the fuck up. Long story short, those guys got mad, tried to come back to our bus and fight us but I was apparently blacked out by this point and they we're jumping us, I woke up and I was lunging off our bus with a corkscrew trying to stab somebody. Then our tour manager finally just locked me on the bus. Later that night there's a video of me like outside peeing on a wall somewhere and my pants are to my ankles, then I do this really weird walk back to the bus, and I get knocked out by the side mirrors on the bus. It was an interesting night. There's been a lot of crazy things happen on this tour. I got in a fist fight with my drummer but for no reason. He was giving me a back rub, then we just got into a fist fight. It's a weird tour.
Estrella: Do you have any crazy fan stories?
Nick: None that I can think of really. We get the cool fans, the chilled out fans.
Estrella: Your new record Sirens recently came out. Who recorded it, where was it done, and what was the writing process like for it?
Nick: Garth Richardson produced it. Well Garth and Ben Caplin. We recorded in Gibson, British Columbia, which is a beautiful town, a little bit north of Vancouver. Writing process was Mike and I locked ourselves in our studio at home for six months and every night just jammed out, wrote some stuff, demo-ed everyone's instrument, then just recorded everything. We got the drummer in because we recorded everything with fake drums at first, then we added our drummer in, then vocals. We were really picky this time.
Estrella: What is the story behind the concept of Sirens, as in Mythology?
Nick: The title came about accidently because I wrote a song "Sirens", long before we had a title for the record and I was like that would be a cool title. Then I thought about it and thought about how I could explain it in interviews. Basically, I looked at all the lyrics in the record and basically almost every song has something to do with some sort of temptation, in one way or another. I thought that was a cool way of looking at it like the Sirens in Greek Mythology, three women who would sing to people at night, draw them into these rock and basically, kill them. It's like kind of saying everybody has their own vices, everybody has their own temptations. It's kind of what the record's about.
Estrella: So for the record, I could say you're pretty educated in Mythology?
Nick: Not really. I studied Latin and there was a lot of Mythology, but I know a little bit about it.
Estrella: Do you know any Gods' names? Like if you could be any God, who would it be and why?
Nick: I don't know, Zeus? I don't know, Zeus probably because that's the only one I can remember right now. I'm really not that smart, at all.
Estrella: It's cool.
Estrella: How do you feel about Myspace? And how it's taken over the world?
Nick: Okay, this is how I feel about Myspace, anybody who is famous because they have a fucking Myspace should really die, I really hate them all. I don't know them personally, they could be good people... I know a few of them actually, they're fucking scumbags. I hate it. Why are you famous? You have an online profile, who the fuck cares about you? Am I wrong?
Estrella: Not at all.
Nick: It's a little weird to have a career based on an internet profile. It's good for bands and stuff, that's sweet. It's a good way to promote things and whatever, I don't understand it other than that. I don't even check mine that much anymore, but if I had a computer that might be different.
Estrella: You're addicted but you hate it.
Nick: I hate the shit out of it but I can't help but go on it.
Estrella: Best Halloween costume you've ever worn.
Nick: Our band costume this year was fucking amazing. I was actually a homosexual from New York who exists in real life. Michael Hendricks. Michael Hendricks, when he talks, this is kind of pointless because you can't put it in writing but he ends every sentences with ''....urrhhmmm." And he was a friend of the one merch guy who was on tour at the time and Chris was my boyfriend and Chris was wearing assless chaps and he actually grew a moustache, I can't grow facial hair, so I drew one on. Our drummer, I don't know what the fuck he was, he was basically naked on stage with sunglasses on and like a loincloth. Our bass player had on a little boy Superman costume. It was pretty funny, especially with assless chaps, lots of makeup, but we also had moustaches, it was very confusing and funny, I liked it and we stayed in character for the whole show.
Estrella: 3 things that are vital to your existence on a desert island?
Nick: Food and water, that takes care of two of them.
Estrella: That doesn't count.
Nick: Am I in the middle of a giant lake? Because then I've got water. Excluding food and water, I'd take... I guess, my Ipod because I'm losing my mind, mine got stolen a couple weeks ago, so definitely my Ipod and some sort of headphones or speakers.
Estrella: A computer, maybe?
Nick: I could deal without a computer, I'd probably take a TV. My guitar and a TV. I'm done!
Estrella: Band that you would like to plug into the interview that you don't feel is getting enough attention.
Nick: I plug the same bands in every damn interview. My favorite band is a band called Lucero, I love love love love love that band. I've never gotten the chance to see them since we're always on tour, which sucks. I love them and this band called Margot and the Nuclear So & So's. I went to Chicago to see them. There's a band who was actually on this tour called The Stick Up, they're amazing guys and they're an incredible band, this is their first US tour. They're incredible. Really really good. Dead Hearts from Buffalo, This Is Hell from Long Island, Every Time I Die I guess gets enough attention but Every Time I Die, everybody loves them. That's all I can think of right now, all those bands.
Estrella: Any closing statements?
Nick: No, I've got nothing but thank you for the interview and go buy our new record.
