GOODBYE TOMORROW

August 10, 2007
[interview by Alexa & Mandy ]

Estrella: Could you please state your name and what you do in the band.
Travis: Travis and I sing.

Estrella: Could you give me a rundown of how all of your members met?
Travis: Josh and David are kind of core/originators of the band that are still playing in the band, I guess they met a long time ago in Phoenix, they've been doing this band for a while. Josh plays guitar and David plays bass. When I came into the band, Matt had joined as the second guitarist, he'd only been playing for a little while and they decided to switch drummers a little while back. Austin played with us for the record, then I joined?

Estrella: How has tour been so far?
Travis: It's been really good. From my past experience being out on the road, trapped in a van with four dudes, more than a couple weeks is really really challenging but we've all got along really well and our relationship is stronger than they've ever been to begin with, it's pretty crazy.

Estrella: If you were to describe your music to somebody who's never heard it, how would you describe it?
Travis: Kind of softer alternative rock. Something you'd hear in the 90s, with a non sensibility, I think.

Estrella: Who are some of the band's personal influences?
Travis: When we were making the record we were listening to Nada Surf, Snow Patrol, Sigur Ros. I love the Counting Crows.
Estrella: Do you listen to Mat Kearney?
Travis: I do, but until he starts rapping, then it creeps me out.
Estrella: Yeah, me too.

Estrella: Who are you currently listening to?
Travis: Blonde Redhead's new record, it's so good. Stateless, there's a band called Stateless, they're from oversea, I think they'll catch on over here because they're awesome. I listen to the same ol' same ol' like the Counting Crows.

Estrella: How did your signing come about?
Travis: Well the record label found them and offered them the deal and they signed it, or so I think. A week later their singer quit, so the record deal was kind of off. So I was their next move and we played a showcase in Las Vegas for the record label again and it was awesome, they were all about it. So we resigned.

Estrella: Last year you came out with a 3 song EP and now everyone's waiting on the full length, when can we expect it?
Travis: We started writing last late fall/early winter, we went to the studio all through December and January, so it should have already been out but there was some different hang ups like we had it mixed and then we needed to get it remixed and we held out a little bit to get a certain person to master it until his schedule was open and all in all it's not going to be out until January because we figure it's in our best interest to not release it the 4th quarter of the year with the holidays and all of that going on. With us being a new band, we'd probably get lost.

Estrella: What do you believe you'd be doing if you weren't in a band?
Travis: I don't know. Since I've been doing music for the last 6 years, I haven't really found a hobby that I could enjoy, I don't know. I've always loved music and wanted to do it but I wanted to be a rapper when I was in junior high.

Estrella: Sketchiest town that you've ever played in?
Travis: I had a really weird experience in Akron, Ohio.

Estrella: Favorite town you've ever played in?
Travis: Seattle, but not for playing there.

Estrella: Favorite breakfast cereal?
Travis: Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Blueberry Muffin Tops.

Estrella: Best subject in high school?
Travis: English.

Estrella: Worst subject in high school?
Travis: Math.

Estrella: If you were stranded on a desert island and you could take three things with you, what would they be?
Travis: Acoustic guitar, boat, and...
Estrella: Sunblock?
Travis: No, I'd become one with the sun. Probably a bottle with a paper and a pen so I could make a documentation and once I thought of my brilliant thought of my life that would change the world, I'd write it down.

Estrella: Any crazy tour stories?
Travis: Our drummer Austin, he tour manages us and he forgets our guarantee a lot. Well not a lot but more than once, enough to... it gets crazy.

Estrella: What can we expect in the future?
Travis: I think we're going to try, there's been talks about recording a few things like maybe a song from the album acoustic and a couple new songs. We have tons of material that's not being used for the album. We're thinking about putting something like that out in a month or two just online for everyone to hear it.

Estrella: The three songs that were released last year, are they going to be on the album?
Travis: A Vespertine Haunting and Carouseling will be.
Estrella: And you made a video for, "Tragedienne?"
Travis: Yeah and it's not going to be on the record. We tried and it didn't work out. We tried doing some things to make it add more satisfaction and we ended up with a big mess and it never really took shape.

Estrella: Is there any bands that you'd like to plug in the interview for people to check out, like Stateless?
Travis: Yeah. All the bands that we're on tour with The Recieving End of Sirens, Hopesfall, and Emanuel.

Estrella: Any closing statements?
Travis: Thank you.
Estrella: Thank you.
