Estrella: Hi, for the purpose of the interview could you please tell us your
name and what you do in the band?
Patrick: Hi, my name’s Patrick and I sing and play guitar for Fall Out Boy
Estrella: How’s everything been for you guys since the release of your
new album, "Take This To Your Grave"?
Patrick: It’s been crazy, everything’s been a whirlwind. Well, it’s all been slow enough
where’s it’s not been crazy but I think it’s only been slow because we’ve been touring the whole time. If we took any breaks and got the same
responses gradually at like intervals it would have blown us away I’m sure but looking back to where we used to be and where we are right now,
well England right now, but how far we’ve come, it’s been crazy.
Estrella: How would you describe the album to someone who hasn’t
heard it yet?
Patrick: Musically?
Estrella: Yeah.
Patrick:Well if a hardcore band was happy, well we’re not very happy but hardcore bands
are pretty pissed off. Well we kind rock out like a hardcore band but we write pop songs kind of.
Estrella: So how’s the UK tour going so far?
Patrick: It’s been awesome, it’s been really really great. The kids have been great, the
shows have all been sold out which doesn’t make any sense to me because it’s our first time headlining here, so it’s been kind of a surprise.
Everyone always complains about the weather over here but it’s so much warmer here right now than it is back home, everyone’s like, "Brrrrr it’s
so cold, I’m so cold" and I’m just like bring it on.
Estrella: What’s the best and worst thing about coming to the UK?
Patrick:The best thing is the shows and it's awesome to be in another English speaking
country, so to be in another country and being able to communicate with people is the coolest thing but when we were in Japan, I was just totally
lost, I just didn’t understand a word of what was going on, well obviously, but I had no idea what was going on and it was scary and crazy. Over
here, we just get to experience a lot more stuff because you can just talk to people. The worst thing [about coming to the UK] is, well the flights not
that great, some of the food isn’t as good but it’s not all the food much to the contrary of what most American’s think. Over here, you’ve just got to
know what to get, don’t get the kind of stuff you’d get back in the states. Eat what the British people eat because that’s probably why the British
people aren’t eating that stuff if it’s not good so just eat what British people eat.
Estrella: What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you guys
while on tour?
Patrick: One time Andy, our drummer, had this guy basically rob him but he didn’t have
anything on him, but this guy grabbed him and had like a knife of a gun on him and said, "Give me all your money", then some other homeless guy
came in and broke it all up so we gave him half our t-shirt money from that night just because it was awesome of the guy to come to Andy’s aid
like that.
Estrella: What bands are you guys all listening to at the moment?
Patrick: I’m a little bit eclectic so to list it would be like a pain in the ass but referring to
what’s going on right now I’m listening to a lot of My Chemical Romance, their new record's really good. I like this new band from Chicago called
The Academy Is, love them. Motion City Soundtrack have a new record coming out that really awesome and I got to sing on. Gym Class Heroes
as well, all that kind of stuff really. Prince, as well.
Estrella: So what does the rest of 2005 hold in store for FOB?
Patrick: The new record which is coming out May 3rd in the States, which we are all really
excited about. Then we have a headlining tour followed by the Warped tour, then that brings us into the Fall, but I don’t know what we are doing in
the Fall, don’t know, hopefully something cool. 2005’s already pretty fully booked so we’ll be busy anyway.
Estrella: Have you got any plans to come back to the UK after this tour?
Patrick: Absolutely, we have no specific plans but the response we’ve gotten over here has
already been beyond what we thought so we are already talking about doing stuff and we were going to try and do some festivals over here but
we are going to miss them because of the Warped tour.
Estrella: Yeah, I heard a rumour about you guys possibly coming over at the end of the
summer and playing the Carling Reading & Leeds Festival.
Patrick: Yeah, I’d love to play them, we haven’t been asked to play them yet but if Carling
would like us to play Reading and Leeds Festivals then yeah just drop us a line.
Estrella: Do you having last comments or closing statements?
Patrick: Ummm, oh yeah our bass player’s not here. I’m sorry to all the British kids that
didn’t get to see him this time around, he’ll be out with us next time and he’ll be back with us when we get back home. Hopefully, we are going to
try and get him out for London but that might fall through, I just want to apologise and he sends his love to everyone out here.
Estrella: Cheers.
