Estrella: State your name and what you do in the band.
Brian: Hey, I'm Brian. I play drums for Fire In The Hole.
Dan: My name is Dan, and I play rhythm guitar and sing backup vocals.
Estrella: Who are some of your musical influences as a individual and as a band?
Dan: Ace Enders from the Early November, Jesse Lacey from Brand New, and John Nolan from Straylight Run.
Brian: Most of the local bands we are surrounded by who are making it big are huge influences and inspirations to me, several underground bands such as Rufio and The Prize Fight who prove that it is possible to make it are also a big contributer to what keeps me motivated.
Estrella: So you guys are all pretty young.. how old are all of you guys and who is the youngest?
Brian: We are 15-16, all without licenses except Dan. I am the youngest, 15 and 7 months.
Estrella: How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?
Brian: If you've ever listened to the "pop/punk" stuff that is out now you will have a slight idea of what we sound like, but we take it much futher than that within our genre. I personally think we have a very original sound, but you'll just have to listen and decide for yourself.
Estrella: Who writes all the music and lyrics?
Brian: We all do, everyone worries about their own parts while contributing ideas to each others, Zach writes more of the lyrics than us though, considering he's singing them.
Estrella: Who in the band would you say is the most...A.D.D.? haha.
Brian: No comment.
Dan: Definitely BRIAN, our drummer. Sometimes when we are trying to practice, he will just go off in to his own little world and play different characters through his RANDOM drum beats. It gets really out of hand sometimes and Brian goes really crazy, its scary. Other times Brian will get so in to it that when we all stop and are trying to talk, he will keep going until he realizes we just want him to just shut up, and that's all we ever want him to do.
Estrella: What is your favorite song to play?
Brian: Right Coast Rising or Often On. Right Coast Rising, because it flows the best, the audience sings along, and everyone of all ages can seem to get into it. On the other hand, Often On is great to play live because most of our fans know all the words and its great to be able to look out in the crowd and see people mouthing things that we wrote in my basement.
Estrella: Who is your favorite celebrity crush?
Brian: What does that have to do with anything? haha. Dan Fusting from Fire In The Hole, he's a hottie. Dan said 50 cent, but I told him it couldnt be on the interview....he has no friends.
Estrella: As a musician, what do you think was your biggest show that got your name out there? Or do you have any coming up soon that might spread the word about who you guys are?
Brian: All 3 times we've played at the Recher Theatre in Towson [Maryland] have been our biggest shows. The first two Friday nights we played, over 150 people came just for us, and the third time [which was a snowy Saturday night] over 115. This shows fan-wise the amount of support we have in our area and hopefully that area is widening. Hopefully, this show with Boys Night Out that we are working on will come through, if it does that will definitely be one of our bigger ones too.
Dan: I think so far the best show has been at the Recher, but I'm really looking forward to playing at York College with The Prize Fight, because they are a band that I have liked for a long time and seen in concert before and I think it's gonna be awesome to share the stage with such a cool band.
Estrella: What inspired you guys to start a band?
Brian: In 8th grade, we all just happened to have the instruments required for your basic band. Matt and I had been friends and he came over once to hang out. During this time, he noticed my drum set that was set up in the basement and informed me that he and his friend Zach [our lead singer, now] had been messing around, making songs for fun. They wanted to add drums for the heck of it so we did. We had our first practice as a band in October of 2001 and right then we knew we had something, we just gelled so smoothly. It was just there and we've been doing it since then.
Estrella: If you stranded on a island and were only allowed 3 things, what 3 items would you take with you?
Brian: An acoustic guitar [to play powerchords in Drop D, of course], a box of ramen soup, and flares.
Estrella: Is there anything that your listening to, that not alot of people know about? Like locals or underground stuff? And who?
Both: All we listen to is underground stuff, it's the degree of underground..ness that the bands are in. For example, Rufio is near the top in the underground world, while the local bands in our area and our band are closer to the bottom. We like all of the CLASSIC Drive-Thru bands [Hidden In Plain View, Senses Fail, Allister, Home Grown, etc.] But, as for unknown bands, the only one that I can think of is Madison. Madison is a great band and will probobly be signed by Drive-Thru, one day. Other than that, many all of the local bands up and down the east coast are great.
Estrella: What's your favorite movie?
Brian: Fast & Furious.
Estrella: So you guys are all still in high school. How much does school interfere with the band?
Brian: Alot. Between our parents always lecturing us on how school is most important, and our actual school work being due the morning after a show or after a long practice, it gets rough some times. We always make time though and to most of us, the band is our #1 Priority [shh.]
Estrella: Any closeing statements??
Brian: Maciej [Matt] Is Polish.
