New Medicines
Dead Poetic

[review by Jess]

Dead Poetic have been tarred with the same brush as bands such as Underoath, a band who I really don’t like so I wasn’t expecting much from this album. I’d heard ‘Vanus Empty’ and loved it but presumed it was probably a one-off, the same with a lot of albums I buy.

"Dream Club Murders" is a pretty song, the second on the album which leaves you wanting more… but after this and track four, the beautiful "Vanus Empty", the whole album just seems to blend into one. If Dead Poetic had introduced this album five years ago, it would have been interesting to listen to but the fact of the matter is, it just sounds like every other good-looking, wannabe hardcore band. The vocalist has a gorgeous voice but sounds like he can’t really be bothered to sing which also lets the whole album down.

"Hostages" is a song that stands out but only because of the odd drum beat and line “We don’t even know” which doesn’t seem to fit somehow, it’s a rather bizarre track which leaves you with a bit of a headache after listening to it.

To be fair, this album isn’t bad. It’s pleasant, but it just seems to be an album of filler tracks and background music. This is an album to borrow, rather than buy.
