Cave In

[review by Jess]

I saw Cave In in London 2 years ago because my boyfriend at the time absolutely loved them – I’d never heard any of their material until after the gig. After seeing them I was blown away and became absolutely addicted to one song, “Inspire”. After hearing the crash of the compulsive, head-bobbing guitar riff I decided I had to buy the album.

I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t know how you would classify Cave In but they are not the sort of music I usually listen to. They have long, sweeping riffs mixed with intelligent music and the most powerful and inspiring lyrics I have ever heard. “Anchor” is one of my favourite songs on the album, especially the lyric “Whatever you exhale, I’m breathing in the air”. The song sweeps past you like a tidal wave, it’s a crash of lyrics, cymbals and addictive basslines, a dangerous combination which Cave In manage to carry off so well. “Beautiful Son” and “Seafrost” are the equivalent of a CD’s commercial break, they take you out of the action for a few minutes before launching you into “Rubber and Glue” which takes you back to show what Cave In are really made of, pure guitar power and influence.

There is no guarantee that you will like this album but I would ask that you try and get hold of “Inspire” as it really will inspire you. (Boom Boom).
