Make Your Self Sick
Boys Night Out

[review by Jenna]

Screamo-melodic Canadian band Boys Night Out have defiantly showed us how much respect they deserve. Their CD release of Make Yourself Sick has many amazing tracks that leave you wanting more from these Ferret recording Artists. From hardcore screaming in “The Anatomy of the Journey” to soft relaxing melodies in “Hold on Tightly, Let go Lightly”. This album is filled with every kind of feeling imaginable and I feel that you can relate to every song in a different way, which is awesome because I usually find myself relating to a lot of the stuff I listen to in a more romantic way. Its not the same in this case. Once you place the CD into your stereo you are blown away with the track, “I got punched in the nose for sticking my nose in other peoples businuess”, long title yes, but an awesome song. The music is kind of screamo, but with a catchy beat. Actually a lot of the songs likethe following song “Just Once” is very similar. Catchy beats but filled with anger and frustration. Its all pretty muched categorized as that until you hit “Hold On Tightly, Let Go Lightly” it’s the point in the record when you go. Wow, this is the same band?”, because it’s that different from the rest of the album musically. Great lyrics are also involved, which is where the relating to what they are saying comes in. Lyrics are written by Connor Lovat-Fraser and Jeff Davis, and what an amazing job they did. One of my favorite lines is, “Hey, honey, hold my hand and hope for heaven, because I just can't help myself. Even angels end up burned and buried in my backyard...And you, you're just like everyone else”. How can you not love it. A lot of it lyrically is so beautifully worded it makes you think and then re-think it all over again. With descriptive words and lines like “Kisses laced with Cyanide”, “Your eyes give in to that shattered glass shine”, and “Passion can't apply when we're so drained and pale”. It may be me, but to me it’s absolutely beautiful. If you were to ask me what my favorite song was I wouldn’t know what to tell you because these guys are so great and talented, that I couldn’t even think of picking just one. It’s like once you find a song you decide you love, you love the next one just as much. Check them out on Ferret Records. Just go buy the damn CD already and see for yourself.
