Estrella: Who came up with the band name As You Wish?
Jonathan: I guess that would be a split between myself and my exgirlfriend.. Both of us shared a similar infatuation with The Princess Bride and half jokingly disccussed me naming a new band after it.. After we broke up and I was writing a lot of songs about her, it seemed kind of fitting....
Estrella: Does As You Wish mean anything?
Jonathan: Of course.. As You Wish means I Love You, everyone knows that...;)
Estrella: Where are you all from?
Jonathan: Well we all pretty much lived and grew up here in Lakeland, Fl... I know Chad lived in PA for a while and Leo's orginially from Puerto Rico and moved here when he was 9... Jason, Riz and myself are all Florida boys from what I remember...
Estrella: Who writes most of the songs?
Jonathan: We all write our music collectively as a band.. Someone will come up with a riff or an idea and we'll take it to practice and flesh it out and arrange it until it clicks and we're all satisfied.. During that process is when we usually work out melodies and harmonies, but a lot of times those aren't finished until we've actually recorded the song and are adding vocals to the mix in the studio... Recently we've been spending a lot more time in pseudo "pre production" of songs trying to get them as complete as possible melody wise before laying them down... Lyrically I handle about 98 percent of the writing...
Estrella: What's your favorite parts of being in a band?
Jonathan: Touring and playing shows.. Just getting up and displaying something you've created and are pationate about for other people is an incredibly feeling.. Not to mention we give all we have into our shows and have a lot of fun doing it..
Estrella: What is the whole band doing now?
Jonathan: Right now we're working on finishing up the final touches to an ep that should have been out a long time ago, but we're sort of happy it's takiung the time that it did.. We're also redoing our website, about to leave for a tour to texas and working on one to the east coast and midwest in the fall.. We're playing tons of shows while we're home and practicing alot to finsih up some new stuff to demo before we leave for tour.. All while working full time jobs and tyring not to kill each other.. It's a delicate balance...;)
Estrella: What do you like about touring?
Jonathan: Just the sense of freedom and the feeling of being a live you get from waking up in a different city everyday and meeting new people
Estrella: What are 5 cd's that are spinning in your cd player now?
Jonathan: Well since I only have a single disc player we'll have to go one at a time... Alkaline Trio: Good Mourning, 50 cent: Get Rich or Die Tryin, In Flames: Clayman, Copeland: Beneath Medicine Tree, Iron Maiden: Seventh Son of a Sevnth Son
Estrella: Who are your influences?
Jonathan: Personally that would be my Mom and Dad, Ayn Rand, and Chris Hannah from Propagandhi.. As far as musically goes we come from such a wide background of musical tastes and styles that we seriously draw influence from so many different bands.. Anything from Rush to At The Gates to Incubus to Midtown to Dave Mathews to Faith No More/Mike Patton to Guns N Roses to Eminem to Stevie Ray Vaughn to Finch to Simon and Garfunkel.. We're all over the place... It's good times
Estrella: What do you like about the fans?
Jonathan: Everything.. what's not to like? The fact that people are into something you do enough to come spend there time to share it with out is awesome... Not to mention the people that go out of their way to support you and help you play shows and flyer and just spread the word and share your music is simply incredible...
Estrella: Any words of encouragement or advice?
Jonathan: Yeah.. Live for yourself, follow your own dreams, and do whatever it is that makes you happy.. You only live once so you might as well spend it doing what you enjoy rather than just occupying time and space...
