Estrella: Who thought up of the name, 3 Prong Outlet?
Matt: Steve and I were throwing names around for 4 days or so in the very early times known as the beggining....we had come up with nothing and had to appear on a local cable access TV show very shortly after we formed and needed to call our project something before the broadcast (To people just now forming bands...DO NOT RUSH THINGS!) So, after much debate and frustration, I believe Steve came up with 3 Prong Outlet.....it was catchy and at the time sounded decent enough.....so we stuck with it....although...looking back......sometimes I wish we had thought of somthing else.....(This was about 3 years before the onslaught of bands with names that had numbers involved in them mind you......)
Estrella: Does it mean anything?
Matt: Does it mean anything? ......tell me what anything means, then you will have your answer.........
Estrella: Where are all the members from?
Matt: We all live in a Baltimore suburb known as Catonsville... Lucky exit 13 off the beltway ......Steve was born in Clearfield PA however and I was conceived and spent the first 2 yars of my life in Arbutus (another Baltimore suburb)
Estrella: Who writes most of the songs?
Matt: I write most of the basic outlines of the songs....The nutshell sum up of the process goes like this.....I'll capture a song out of the infinite air space where they all float around, put it to guitar, record its skeleton on a tape recorder, write the lyrics, and then play it for the rest of the guys.Afterwards, if anyone has an idea......it gets thrown on the table and we all figure out what sounds best for the final result.....bassically, the main song writer of a peice of our music is whoever is singing the lead vocal....and then, everyone else throws in suggestions......
Estrella: What's your favorite parts of being in a band?
Matt: I love playing live, I feel really comfortable on stage...much more than off.....Its one of the only places that I feel really safe....I need to perform....I love putting on a show and entertaining people. Offstage....its a different story....Im much more reserved and kinda shy after the initial buzz from the show has worn off......
Estrella: What is the whole band doing now? [touring, working on a new cd?]
Matt: Right now we are gearing up for our CD release show on June 22nd....booking a tour and getting as many gigs booked as possible in order to carry out our goal of world domination...
Estrella: What are some of the bands that you are listening to right now?
Matt: I dont really care for alot of new music thats out right now...the whole emo/screamo new wave punk thing doesn't do a whole lot for me..So, more and more lately I find myself reaching back to music of the early 90's, I had The Smashing Pumpkins greatest hits going around for a while. Ive also been burying myself in alot of Led Zeppelin and today I was rocking out to The Monkees box set that I own. As far as new stuff...Ive been enjoying the latest Alkaline Trio CD, the new NOFX, and an underground punk band from NY called 5 Cent Deposit.
Estrella: Who are some of your influences?
Matt: My influences personally are everyone from the Beatles to Eminem. I think anything that can inspire you to write and take that extra step to grow artistically can be considered an influence. I'd say that watching a stream, or a sunset, or even seeing somthing that really makes you angry could get the creative gears turning. As a band, I'd say our basic musical influences are probebly Green day, The Queers, Screeching Weasel, Nerf Herder, the older Blink stuff, bassically, stuff that was poppy, but at the same time, had some Balls...I think there is a serious lack of that aspect in punk music these days...it's pretty sad.
Estrella: What do you like most about all of your fans?
Matt: Fans? What fans?.....The fans keep me cool while I'm onstage.
Estrella: Any words, your last words?
Matt: If you ever kill someone, stab them with an icicle, cause the weapon melts away........
